The Transit rail services in New Jersey had to quickly shut down all services due to a call-in-sick coordinated attacks by their system engineers.

This led to commuters looking for alternatives and a way out as many were heavily stranded.

The Engineers called in sick at a rate 4 times higher than the usual complaints that usually came in, the result was a day of cancellations across the system, the nation’s largest.

The incident started at the early hours of the morning whereby there was a lot of cancellations and it escalated towards the evening, leaving commuters stranded and scrambling for a way out in Penn Station.

Of the 15 rail unions at New Jersey Transit, BLET is the only one that had not reached a contract agreement with the agency. Each of the other unions had recently agreed upon their contracts, which included Juneteenth as a paid holiday.

From speculation, it's probably due to the fact that the New Jersey Transit Rail Station has suffered from scanty funding leading to poor maintenance of the low numbers of engineers have been graduated over the years.
